GMD, SOL - Dr Olufemi Olukayode Ogunlowo, conferred the Transparency Africa Honour
The Chief Executive Officer of SOL, Dr Olufemi, Olukayode Ogunlowo, was conferred with an award from Transparency Africa Group on Thursday 21, October 2021, recognising and appreciating his outstanding commitment and inspirational leadership.
The Transparency Africa Group is a non-partisan organisation that works with the public sector, private sector, civil societies, and the media to promote transparency in Africa with the broader goal of bringing development to the African continent. Transparency Africa, as part of its focus, engages the government for accountability of public funds, promotes election transparency by monitoring and observing the electioneering process, creates awareness for a corrupt-free Nigeria and Africa, and supports true democracy.
The representative of Transparency Africa, while presenting the award, noted Dr Ogunlowo's tenacity, consistency, and resilience, which have echoed distinctly through his exemplary leadership engraved in integrity and selflessness despite daunting social and systemic obstacles fueled by the depravity in African society's social values and sharp political practices.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Ogunlowo opined that the focus should be on building our societal values, especially trust, rather than fighting corruption. The awardee posited that the consistent failure in fighting corruption in Africa is that the energy dissipated to fight can build trust in our society and systems. According to him, societal values have more potency to fight corruption and ensure a high level of accountability and transparency in all sectors of the country and the African continent. He, therefore, encouraged that youths begin to reorientate and change their focus from fighting corruption to building the nation.
In his closing remarks, the awardee advised Transparency Africa to adopt indigent school children and create awareness on the importance of good governance from the formative age.
